Holla from Kansas City!
This is the first blog that I get to do and I hope that I can give you a grasp of the great and powerful things that are going on here in KC.
We arrived here in KC on Friday, the 18th. We were greeted by Pastor Jennifer Thomas, a community advocate, Hendrick, and the new grounds keeper, Joe. We got acquainted with everyone and we're quickly on our way to setting up the parsonage into our home for the next 9 months. We have a very cool set up. We're staying in a church parsonage that is owned by Immanuel Lutheran Church. It's a cozy, two-story house. Despite my basement fears (TEXANS DON"T HAVE THEM) I think that this is definitely a very nice set up, definitely a gift from God.
It was quite interesting getting into town and learning the streets because of the vastness of KC but I think that we're progressing pretty good about learning what is around us and such.
My team and I are trying to figure out our ministry schedules and this means LOTS of meetings, day planner referencing and prayer. Where we figure out our time is going to be pretty intense because of the number of ministries that we are going to be partnering with. Right now, I have a lot of options as to what to do. For example, I might be teaching a basic computer skills class at the local Salvation Army, assisting and taking part in project management at Metro Lutheran Ministries, helping out in a kitchen at Operation Breakthrough and/or a local elementary school. These are just a small portion of the activities and oppurtunities that my team and I will be able to partake in. Please pray for us as we decide on our ministry commitments.
Once I have a more concrete schedule, I will be letting the world know through facebook and on here.
This past Wednesday, we got to enjoy a nice dinner with a family in the community. They are an awesome family who are devoted to helping us and our mission here. This is very encouraging and I am looking forward to getting to know this family. For privacy reasons, I am not sure if I can type their names in here, but I can definitely check on that.
My team and I are flowing together nicely. I was blessed to have an awesome staff during the summer in Carthage (I didn't forget about you!) and I am grateful to God for blessing me with yet another amazing staff here in Kansas City.
If you could be in prayer for a few things. - Support raising. We are going to get the ball rolling on that and pray that we can be diligent. - Ministry site commitments. For discernment and motivation in all that we do. - a family in Carthage, TX. - mother of the family had a tumor in her brain. Pray for continued healing (they were able to take it out and went great, PRAISE GOD!) - all of the other GreaterWorks sites (Birmingham, Pine Ridge, and Monessen)
I appreciate all of your support and love you very much.
Until next time...
